IRCBox merges with IRCBox.org, bringing new users to our network. IRCBox.org is a german-based IRC network. The users of IRCBox.org have found a new home in the channel #chat-de, and the IRCBox.org server has been added to our network and the IRCBox roundrobin.

We believe the new alliance will offer a better service for all users of both IRCBox and IRCBox.org, and we welcome all IRCBox.org users to our network and martin, the server administrator of IRCBox.org, to our oper team!

In name of the IRCBox staff, I wish all users a prosperous 2010 for all their projects. May 2010 turn out to be even greater as 2009!

For the people who haven't noticed already, IRCBox has broken the top 200 on SearchIRC yesterday. Being in the top 200 is an important milestone for us, it separates us from the huge amount of small hobby networks that are out on IRC. We think that being able to reach this goal only 6 months after starting up our project is a very nice achievement and it proves we're doing the right thing here. People really appreciate the change we are trying to make. So for making this milestone a fact, I would like to thank all staff, channel owners and operators. This is your moment! Reaching this goal wouldn't have been possible without the continious effort you are putting in every day to introduce new users, make them comfortable with our services by explaining to them how things are working, and to continue to support them in their day to day operations.

So, I wasn't kidding when I said there were more things to come. Effective immediately, IRCBox has merged with FunIRC. We are very pleased to report that the FunIRC staff has joined the IRCBox team. The new team believes strongly that the merger will result in a better service for our users, and a richer network as a whole. Read the entire article for more information.

Here at IRCBox we like to keep things moving, so we are pleased to announce we have added a new channel to our network. We welcome Alexel and the chatters at #muromania, the official channel for the MuRomania MMORPG. Enjoy your stay with us! :)

Using IRC is a lot of fun. In order to make things even more fun, we're adding a bunch of IRC based games to the network. The first two are RPG's : The well known IdleRPG; and GameServIRC we have aptly baptized IRCBoxRPG. You will find them in the channels #IdleRPG and #IRCBoxRPG respectively, and are free for anyone to join.

IRCBox now offers inter network links with Janus, an IRC Server technology which allows networks to link on an individual channel basis, without the need to drop their own IRC Services, protection, or IRCD flavor. If you have experience with linking channels on different networks but are wondering what Janus is about, think Eggdrop with Netlink, on steroids! We will be adding some interesting links here soon which will make your stay here with us even more worthwhile than it is now. Stay Tuned!

IRCBox is launching the IRCBox Boinc team. What's Boinc? Its a distributed computing effort that can be used for various useful and geeky things, such as simulating the folding of proteines in search for a cure for cancer or finding alien life trough analyzing cosmic radio waves. We have written a nice setup guide available in our wiki. If you can spare some calculation time on your computer(s), join our team!

Our channel services were down for a few minutes today, due to an upgrade. Since the upgrade, we are running on the latest Anope services, version 1.8.2. The upgrade went smooth and without any issues. It brings a slew of bug fixes and stability enhancements. Check out the full article for the full list of changes.
